November 2010 – Darling Downs Power Station QLD

Global Directional Drilling Services was contracted for the installation of a 280mm Polyethylene Enveloper with a 160mm Polyethylene water pipe inside the enveloper under the Dalby-Kogan Road. The bore was at a length of 160m and is to be used for the transportation of water to cool the new Darling Downs Power Station close to Dalby QLD. The list of conrtactors employed by Origin Energy to instal the water pipe were CH2MHILL, Christopher Contracting and Global Directional Drilling Services. Two APA gas mains where exposed to ensure the safe crossing underneath the lines. The ground conditions for the bore mainly consisted of shale and clay. Aqua-Clear was used to help break down the thickness of the drill fluid for easier pumping. The bore was completed in under a week with no incidents.
